Restore Trails and Pathway Funding

March 30th, 2005

During the past few years state funding for the trails and Pathways Program has been drastically reduced from $950,000 to just $30,000, making it very difficult to develop the trail network infrastructure so important to Utah. We need your help to restore $500,000 in funding for this important program.

USU/Downtown Trail Help Needed!

March 29th, 2005

A Trail to Connect Downtown to the University
Logan City Council is in the process of approving the construction of a new “dugway” that also includes the design for the Boulevard’s permanent traffic flow changes (click map at right to enlarge). With this road comes the opportunity to create a trail system that will connect historic downtown Logan to Utah State University. The trail will begin at Center Street and 200 East and run alongside the canal, to 400 East (the Crocket Avenue Canal Company has voiced support for the project). Then it will head up the bluff and run along the Boulevard Parkway too 600 East. At this point it will hopefully go through a tunnel under the new Dugway. Otherwise it will cross the Boulevard where pedestrians and cyclists can head up 400 N. to the existing underpass to access USU.

Blacksmith Fork Trail Funding Approved!

October 8th, 2004

The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation has verbally approved a Grant to help fund the Blacksmith Fork Trail Construction Project. The 1.7 mile proposed trail has already begun to generate much enthusiasm and anticipation from citizens of Hyrum City as well as other surrounding municipalities throughout Cache Valley. The proposed trail-head intersects with two other existing trails and has the potential for so many diverse activity groups to benefit.

For years, Blacksmith Fork Canyon has provided many Utahans with a number of recreational activities, yet access has been mainly limited to motorized vehicles. The proposed trail will offer a new experience for hikers, cyclists, cross-country skiers, equestrians and others who have not been exposed to its beauty. It should also help to encourage local conservation awareness and has the potential to revitalize the community’s efforts toward other local trail and recreational projects.

Vote yes on initiative one

October 8th, 2004

Initiative One will provide funding for trails, parks, open space and water quality.

Local and state funding has always been difficult to acquire for projects that protect our natural resources and open space . This bond will provide funds earmarked for those projects. This money combined with other conservation group funds will have a significant impact on the future of our state. The people who are interested in trails and open space comprise a large enough group to impact this election. First and foremost vote. Secondly vote for Initiative One. Call with questions or if you need supporting signs. Dave rayfield 757-9120
